Coldest Air of the Season Arrives

After the strong storm system that brought significant snow to many areas of eastern Utah and western Colorado, the coldest air of the season followed in its wake. Many locations saw morning low temperatures below zero, but only a few records were broken.

In valley locations, such as the Grand Valley, the cold air will be even colder due to contact with the new snowpack. This will not only result in much colder than normal temperatures for the next few days, but temperature inversions will form. This will trap the colder air near the surface and degraded air quality conditions can be expected.

In Grand Junction, the low temperature on November 30th was 3°. In the western part of the valley, where there was more snow, temperatures were about 10 degrees colder.
