Casper,Wyoming lies in the central portion of the state in the North Platte River Valley at an elevation of 5,300 feet. The Natrona County International Airport, where the readings are taken for the WxChallenge, is located about 8 miles west-northwest of town at an elevation 200 feet higher. Most of the land surrounding Casper is hilly with flat prairie land extending in most directions, except to the south where Casper Mountain extends 3,500 feet above the city.
